ENTERING A NEW CHAPTER

The change in the majority ownership of PT International Nickel Indonesia, Tbk. (PT Inco) has led to a change in the company’s name to PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (Vale Indonesia). This marks one of important milestones in the company.

Vale is the second-biggest mining company and one of the largest publicly traded companies in the world with market capitalization of US$120 billion, while Inco is the largest nickel producer in Indonesia, operating since 1978, 10 years after obtaining its Contract of Work. The combination of these two “strengths”, the dedication of around 6,000 employees and support from the government and community have led to the creation of an important portfolio.

The change in ownership as well as the change in name are hoped to open a new chapter for Vale Indonesia to achieve sustainability while prioritizing safety through increasing production (growth), adding contribution to the government (prosperity) and enhancing true partnership – with employees, government and the community.

The change we want to bring is not merely in the company’s name, logo, slogan or appearance of our Website. It is an attempt to redefine our culture, vision, mission and values. The change we envision is to create a new chapter by enhancing our performance and renewing our commitment to stakeholders.

Since its arrival in Indonesia in 1968, we has been committed to providing benefits not only for shareholders in the form of dividends and the government through the payment of royalties, taxes and non-tax revenue, but also to the community through empowerment programs and other benefits.

In 2012, Vale Indonesia turns 44 years old – an age that portrays accomplishment and maturity. An age upon which we have gained vast experience in dealing with the world’s nickel market turmoil, along with the global as well as Indonesia-specific economic and political dynamics.

We hope this valuable experience will enable us to create a new chapter for the company and all stakeholders in our efforts to contribute our full potential. The support and encouragement of the government and community are thus crucial factors in achieving the above goals.
